No room for a sticky-out port?  Need a better view of what you're user-ing?  This 3D-printed case for the C64U User Port Adapter (not included) securely holds the adapter in a vertical position at the back of the computer.  A passthrough opening allow simultaneous use of the cassette port.

Installation

Refer to the photos and note the orientation of each component during assembly.

  1. Unscrew the adapter retainer from the case and place it aside.
  2. Attach the cable to the adapter.
  3. Thread the adapter's ribbon cable through the openings in the case.
  4. Seat the adapter into the upper bay in the case.
  5. Insert the adapter retainer into the case and screw it in.
  6. Remove power, open the computer's case, and put the top aside.
  7. Thread the adapter's ribbon cable into the cassette port opening of the computer's case.  Plug it into the mainboard connector labeled "User Port".  Observe that the orientation of the connector requires a half-twist in the cable.
  8. Install the U-shaped case clip under the ribbon cable with the tapered opening downward.  Flex the clip (by pressing the wide parts of its body near the U-bend) to extend its prongs through the cassette port opening.  There are two clips provided:  One is slightly shorter, designed for the 64C/slimline case; it has a small indent in the tapered edge (underside) for identification.
  9. Place the case behind the cassette port and guide the clip prongs into it until they click into place.
  10. Carefully replace the computer case top, reconnecting any cables removed during disassembly.
  11. Reconnect power and plug in your modem like it's 1985!

Usage Notes

Please hold the body of the adapter case in place while inserting and removing user port devices.

The dust cover can be placed in the user port adapter bay when the port is not in use.

Use of the case clip is technically optional but recommended.  It does not secure the accessory rigidly to the computer but keeps it from being knocked over easily during normal use.  It will also keep the adapter with the computer, and in position, if the computer is moved.  It is recommended to remove any peripheral from the user port before moving the computer.
